The d&b audiotechnik D20 is a 4 x 1,600W power amplifier with built-in EQ and delay, active power factor correction, and TFT touchscreen—optimized for d&b loudspeakers.
If you’re spec’ing out a d&b system with medium power (4 x 1,600W peak), it follows that you’re going to need amplification that’s not only reliable and energy efficient, but specifically optimized for the superior response of d&b audiotechnik passive speakers. The d&b audiotechnik D20 is just such an amplifier. The 2U, four channel lightweight D20 amplifier delivers medium power into low-impedance loads between 4 and 16 ohms and is ideally suited for use in both mobile and installation environments.

d&b audiotechnik D20—Parsing the Details:
The D20 features the same Digital Signal Processing (DSP) platform as the latest generation of d&b amplifiers, containing configurations for all d&b loudspeakers except the J-Series and the M2 monitor, plus a linear mode. The signal delay capability enables user definable settings of up to 10s (= 3440 m/11286 ft.), which can be applied independently to each channel. The same applies to the two 16-band equalizers, providing optional parametric, asymmetric shelving or notch filtering.
Color TFT touchscreen
The D20 incorporates a color TFT touchscreen, offering quick access to the menu structure, while the rotary encoder can be used for fine adjustments. The front panel and the integrated touchscreen are tilted up for easy operation when the amplifier is below eye level. The equal ratio of signal input to amplifier output channels increases application flexibility particularly for monitor, front-fill, or effect channel use. The D20’s LoadMatch function electrically compensates for the conductive properties of loudspeaker cable.
The D20 incorporates Class D amplifiers featuring a power supply with active Power Factor Correction (PFC)* suitable for mains voltages ranging from 100V to 240V at 50 or 60Hz. It maintains a stable output when used with weak or unstable mains supplies. An NL8 connector provides all outputs on a single port for loudspeaker multicores. Dual-channel mode is driven through four individual NL4 connectors, while Mix TOP/SUB and 2-Way Active mode output configurations for applicable d&b loudspeakers are available via two central NL4 connectors. “etherCON” and RJ 45 connectors enable access to the d&b Remote network through OCA/AES70 via Ethernet and through CAN-Bus respectively.
*What is power factor correction (PFC)—Power factor correction is a technique of increasing the power factor of a power supply. Switching power supplies without power factor correction draw current in short, high-magnitude pulses, which can be smoothed out by using active or passive techniques. This reduces the input RMS current and apparent input power, thereby increasing the power factor. Power factor correction tries to push the power factor of the power supply towards 1. It gets to as close as 0.95 which is acceptable for most applications.
Integrated web interface
The D20 amplifier features an integrated web interface to control individual amplifiers via a standard web browser. In small applications, this allows direct control of each device without the need to create an R1 Remote control software file. The amplifier and the computer must be connected to an Ethernet network. Using a wireless access point, these d&b amplifiers can be controlled using mobile devices.
The D20 Touring rack assembly
The D20 Touring rack assembly is designed as a fully equipped and prewired system rack, providing mains power distribution, connector interfaces, and all internal cabling for three D20 amplifiers. It’s equipped with a 32 A CEE mains power connector, a mains distribution device with a 32 A mains link, and a loudspeaker connector panel.
d&b audiotechnik D20 Touring Rack Triple
All internal audio and remote connections are fully prewired. A loom comprising two AES3 cables and one CAT5/etherCON2 is supplied, providing patch cabling for a network connection and four AES3 channels. The D20 Touring rack assembly is provided with either a DS10 Audio network bridge, which comes supplied with all necessary cabling, or a 1 RU drawer.
The DS10 Audio network bridge interfaces between Dante networks and AES3 digital audio signals, while also providing distribution of Ethernet control data. The DS10 can deliver up to sixteen Dante network channels via AES3 digital signal outputs, and is intended to integrate directly into a D20 Touring rack assembly. The front panel of the DS10 is designed to align with the input panel of the D20 Touring rack assembly. The DS10 can be powered by one of the auxiliary mains outputs. All necessary patch cabling and links are supplied with a D20 Touring rack assembly including a DS10.
The 10 RU Touring rack houses a 19″ internal shockmount steel frame accommodating three D20 amplifiers and the requisite connection panels. It comes with two sliding doors, a Perspex window at the front, four wheels, six handles, and recessed stacking molds at the top.
The DS10 Rack upgrade kit contains everything required to replace the drawer within the D20 Touring rack assembly with a DS10. This kit includes a DS10 Audio network bridge, a powerCON2 to powerCON2 mains cable, an Ethernet patch cable and two AES3 XLR patch cables.
