d&b audiotechnik Yi7P Point-Source Loudspeaker

Point-source loudspeaker with dual 8″ drivers, rotatable constant directivity horn—for fixed installation

Description

The d&b audiotechnik Yi7P is a dual 8″, 400/1,600W (RMS/peak) point-source loudspeaker with a bass reflex cabinet and rotatable high-frequency CD horn—fixed installation version.

The d&b audiotechnik Y-series is designed to offer flexible and highly configurable systems for use in even the most challenging sound reinforcement applications. The Yi7P loudspeakers can be used for small- to medium-scale sound systems in standalone or distributed point-source solutions. It can also figure into a medium-sized line array setup. The Yi7P’s mounting options are suited fixed installation.

Featuring the same internal components, but with narrower dispersion characteristics than the Yi10P, the compact, 2-way passive Yi7P loudspeaker features two 8” drivers in a dipole arrangement with a 1.4” compression driver mounted onto a rotatable constant directivity (CD) horn. Sophisticated horn geometry combined with the advanced bass-reflex port design delivers full bandwidth capabilities with an extended LF output. These point source, high-performance cabinets offer 75° horizontal directivity controlled down to 500Hz, matched with a vertical dispersion of 40°. The horn can be rotated by 90° to enable horizontal orientation.

d&b audiotechnik Yi7P—Parsing the Details

The Yi7P is a passive point-source loudspeaker. It features a dipolar speaker arrangement with two 8″ drivers centered around a 1.4″ HF compression driver mounted on a CD horn with 75° x 40° dispersion characteristics. A rotatable horn enables deployment in either orientation, while an innovative bass-reflex and port design gives an increased LF performance. The high-performance omnidirectional B6 and Bi6-SUB feature a single 18″ long excursion driver, intended for ground stacked applications only.

The Yi7P provides a broad variety of deployment possibilities, especially when used as a standalone, full-range system, or combined with other elements from the Y-Series, either ground stacked or flown. The loudspeaker cabinet is constructed from marine plywood and has an impact resistant paint finish while Weather Resistant (WR) and Special Color (SC) versions are available. The Weather Resistant option provides an IP55* rating, and enables operation of loudspeakers in changing ambient conditions.

The top and bottom panels of the cabinets are each equipped with a pair of M10 threaded inserts to connect to different rigging accessories such as the Z5398 YP Horizontal bracket, the Z5399 YP Mounting bracket, the Z5354 E8/E12 Flying adapter or the Z5020/25 Flying adapter 02/03.

*The IP Code or International Protection Rating, sometimes also interpreted as Ingress Protection Rating. IP55: Protected from limited dust ingress. Protected from low-pressure water jets from any direction.

HFA circuit

In HFA mode (High Frequency Attenuation), the HF response of the system is rolled off. HFA provides a natural, balanced frequency response when a unit is placed close to listeners in near field or delay use. High Frequency Attenuation begins gradually at 1kHz, dropping by approximately 3dB at 10kHz. This roll-off mimics the decline in frequency response experienced when listening to a system from a distance in a typically reverberant room or auditorium.

CPL function

The CPL (Coupling) function compensates for coupling effects between the cabinet and close boundary surfaces or when the cabinet is used as a stage monitor. CPL begins gradually around 1kHz, with the maximum attenuation below 400Hz. To achieve a balanced frequency response, the CPL function can be set to dB attenuation values between 0 and –9. Positive CPL values create an adjustable low frequency boost (0 to +5dB) and can be set when the system is used in full range mode without subwoofers.

Recommended d&b audiotechnik amplifiers

The d&b D80 amplifier is recommended to drive the Yi7P. The d&b D20, 10D, 30D and D6 can also be used.

Yi7P applications
