Description

d&b audiotechnik 18S-SUB Compact Subwoofer

The 18S-SUB is a compact, flyable subwoofer built for use with d&b audiotechnik xS-Series and xA-Series loudspeakers. A high-performance, 1,600W (peak) design with a maximum SPL of 132dB, the 18S-SUB cabinet houses a long-excursion, 18″ neodymium driver in a bass-reflex design. It can be used stand-alone, stacked, or as a base for a mixed ground stack. While the d&b 18S-SUB and 18A-SUB share the same internal components and specifications, the distinguishing factor is that the 18A can also be combined with 10A and 10AL loudspeakers in vertical flown arrays. The enclosure of the 18S-SUB is constructed from marine plywood with an impact-resistant black paint finish and is Ball Impact Resistant according to DIN 18032-3 for schools, sports arenas, and multipurpose halls.

D&b audiotechnik 18S-SUB—Parsing the Details

The front of the loudspeaker cabinet is protected by a rigid metal grille backed by an acoustically transparent foam. The side panels have M10 threads for horizontal brackets, and the rear panel incorporates two Neutrik NL4 speakON connectors, as well as a two-pole screw terminal block. The loudspeaker cabinets and most accessories are also available with the Special Color (SC) option that can be executed in all RAL* colors, while the Weather Resistant (WR) option provides an IP55* rating, and enables the operation of loudspeakers in changing ambient conditions.

*RAL is a color-matching system that defines standard colors for varnish, powder coating, and plastics. It’s the most popular Central European color standard used today.

**The IP Code or International Protection Rating, sometimes also interpreted as Ingress Protection Rating. IP55: Protected from limited dust ingress and protected from low-pressure water jets from any direction.

18S-SUB rigging components

The 18S-SUB side panels are each equipped with a pair of M10 threads to accept the Z5410 Horizontal bracket 18S/27S. The threaded inserts are covered by dummy caps in cabinet color. (The caps must be removed before mounting any accessories.) For use as a base, the 18S-SUB is equipped with four rubber feet to prevent cabinet movement and protect the bottom panel against scratching. The cabinet is Ball-Impact Resistant according to DIN 18032-3.
