Description
d&b audiotechnik B6-SUB Subwoofer
The low-frequency companion to the d&b audiotechnik Y-Series point-source monitors, the 2000W (peak) B6-SUB is a high-performance subwoofer designed for ground-stacked applications. It features a long-excursion 18″ driver built into a bass-reflex cabinet. When three or any multiple of three B6-SUBs are combined, they can be positioned in a Cardioid Subwoofer Array (CSA) with one cabinet physically facing backward, driven by an amplifier channel with CSA mode selected. This achieves exceptional directivity control in lower frequencies and significantly reduces the energy radiating toward the rear.

d&b audiotechnik B6-SUB—Parsing the Details
The B6-SUB is an active, compact, high-performance subwoofer.
The cabinet houses a long excursion 18″ driver with a ferrite magnet in a bass-reflex design. Its frequency response extends from 37 Hz to 140 Hz.
The cabinet is constructed from marine plywood and has an impact and weather-protected PCP (Polyurea Cabinet Protection) finish. The front of the loudspeaker cabinet is protected by a rigid metal grill backed by an acoustically transparent foam, whilst the side panels incorporate two handles.
Four wheels are mounted to the rear and the enclosure features two runners to protect the bottom panel from scratching. Two correspondingly shaped recesses are incorporated into the top panel of each cabinet to accept these runners, preventing cabinet movement when stacked. An M20 threaded flange in the top panel accepts the d&b Loudspeaker stand winder M20. An optional transport lid protects the front of the subwoofer during transit.
CSA mode
The CSA (Cardioid Subwoofer Array) mode enables the combination of three or multiples of three subwoofer cabinets into an array which produces exceptional low-frequency directivity control. The amplifier channel for the center subwoofer of the array, which is physically pointed to the rear, has CSA selected. The forward-facing cabinets are driven with an amplifier channel set to standard mode. The resulting cardioid behavior of the array will significantly reduce the energy radiated to the rear.
B6-INFRA setup
With the B6-INFRA setup selected, the upper operating frequency of the B6-SUB is reduced to 80Hz. The B6-SUB can now be used to supplement applicable d&b loudspeaker systems operating in full range mode.
Recommended d&b audiotechnik amplifiers
The d&b D80 amplifier is recommended to drive the B6-SUB. The d&b D20, 10D, 30D, and D6 can also be used.
