Description

d&b audiotechnik Y10P Point-Source Loudspeaker

The d&b audiotechnik Y-series is designed to offer flexible and highly configurable systems for use in even the most challenging sound reinforcement applications. The Y10P loudspeakers can be used for small- to medium-scale sound systems in standalone or distributed point-source solutions. It can also figure into a medium-sized line array setup. The Y10P’s mounting options are suited to touring systems.

Featuring the same internal components, but with wider dispersion characteristics than the Y7P, the compact, 2-way passive Y10P loudspeaker features two 8” drivers in a dipole arrangement with a 1.4” compression driver mounted onto a rotatable constant directivity (CD) horn. Sophisticated horn geometry combined with the advanced bass-reflex port design delivers full bandwidth capabilities with an extended LF output. These point source, high-performance cabinets offer 100° horizontal directivity controlled down to 500Hz, matched with a vertical dispersion of 40°. The horn can be rotated by 90° to enable horizontal orientation.

d&b audiotechnik Y10P—Parsing the Details

The Y10P is a passive point-source loudspeaker. It features a dipolar speaker arrangement with two 8″ drivers centered around a 1.4″ HF compression driver mounted on a CD horn with 110° x 40° dispersion characteristics. A rotatable horn enables deployment in either orientation, whilst an innovative bass-reflex and port design gives an increased LF performance. The high-performance omnidirectional B6 and Bi6-SUB feature a single 18″ long-excursion driver, intended for ground-stacked applications only.

The Y10P provides a broad variety of deployment possibilities, especially when used as a stand-alone full-range system, or combined with other elements from the Y-Series, either ground stacked or flown. The loudspeaker cabinet is constructed from marine plywood and has an impact and weather-protected PCP (Polyurea Cabinet Protection) finish. The front of the loudspeaker cabinet is protected by a rigid metal grill backed by an acoustically transparent foam. The cabinet incorporates a pair of handles while M10 threaded inserts are provided for attaching d&b rigging hardware. Additionally, two further M10 sockets accept the 8mm load pin to expand the mounting options.

The cabinets accommodate fittings for three types of rigging devices:

  • A quick-lock adapter plate on one side of the cabinet that accepts the Z5397 YP Swivel bracket.
  • Two M10 threaded inserts on the top and bottom panels each to accept the Z5399 YP Mounting bracket.
  • Two additional combined sockets [A], one in the top panel and one at the center rear of the cabinet that accept either:
    • The Q9032 Safety eye bolt M10 to apply a secondary safety device
    • The Z5049 Flying pin 8 mm to support single cabinets or to secure the aiming of an array

HFA circuit

In HFA mode (High-Frequency Attenuation), the HF response of the system is rolled off. HFA provides a natural, balanced frequency response when a unit is placed close to listeners in a near field or delayed use. High-Frequency Attenuation begins gradually at 1kHz, dropping by approximately 3dB at 10kHz. This roll-off mimics the decline in frequency response experienced when listening to a system from a distance in a typically reverberant room or auditorium.

CPL function

The CPL (Coupling) function compensates for coupling effects between the cabinet and close boundary surfaces or when the cabinet is used as a stage monitor. CPL begins gradually around 1kHz, with the maximum attenuation below 400Hz. To achieve a balanced frequency response, the CPL function can be set to dB attenuation values between 0 and –9. Positive CPL values create an adjustable low-frequency boost (0 to +5dB) and can be set when the system is used in full range mode without subwoofers

Recommended d&b audiotechnik amplifiers

The d&b D80 amplifier is recommended to drive the Y10P. The d&b D20, 10D, 30D, and D6 can also be used.

Y10P applications:

  • Musical productions
  • Touring and concerts
  • Performing arts
  • Conferences
  • Religious events
  • Live shows
